Monster Hunter: World is an action role-playing game developed and published by Capcom and the fifth main installment in the Monster Hunter series. It was released worldwide for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in January 2018, followed by a Microsoft Windows version in August 2018. In the game, the player takes on the role of a hunter, tasked with hunting and killing or Catching monsters that roam in one of several environmental spaces. If successful, the player is rewarded with loot consisting of monster parts and other items used to craft weapons and armor, among other equipment. The core loop of the game has the player crafting the appropriate gear in order to hunt more difficult monsters, which in turn provide parts that lead to more powerful gear. Players can hunt alone or in a group of up to four players through the game's online multiplayer mode.

How To Play

Monster Hunter: World is an action role-playing game played from a third-person perspective. As in previous games in the series, the player takes on the role of a player-created character who travels to the "New World", an uninhabited landmass filled with monsters, to join the Commission of Inquiry studying the land from his central command base in Astera. The Research Commission assigns the Hunter the task of hunting and killing or capturing large monsters that roam outside of Astera to protect the Commission and study the monsters there. The player character does not have any intrinsic attributes, rather these are determined by the equipment the character is equipped with. This includes a weapon, selected from the series' fourteen archetypes (such as a longsword, bow, or hammer), which then further defines the types of moves and combat abilities the player can use, and armor pieces, that can lead to benefits. or detrimental combat skills if combined correctly. While some basic equipment can be purchased with in-game currency, most equipment is built from loot gained from killing or catching monsters, rewards from completing quests, or items collected in the field. This creates a core loop of gameplay where the player fights against monsters they can defeat in order to gain adequate loot to craft upgraded weapons and armor that allow them to take on more powerful monsters and the potential for even better gear.
