    A Court of Frost and Starlight is the first novel in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas (not considered the fourth book in the series). It was published on May 1, 2018. It takes place after the events of A Court of Wings and Ruin and is told from the perspectives of Feyre and Rhysand. The novel acts as a prequel to the spin-off novels.
    The novel also contains a preview of the upcoming novel, A Court of Silver Flames, which features Cassian and Nesta as the main characters.

    Summary

    Feyre, Rhysand, and their friends are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the much-altered world beyond, recovering from the war that changed everything. But the winter solstice is finally approaching and with it the joy of a hard-earned reprieve.
     
    However, even the festive atmosphere cannot prevent the shadows of the past from drawing near. As Feyre navigates her first winter solstice as Grand Dame, her concern for her loved ones deepens. They have more wounds than she anticipated, scars that will have a far-reaching impact on the future of her court.

    Review

    Some alliances remain dangerous (recruiting monsters to fight monsters is always a risky proposition) and double agents abound. The supporting characters' romantic stories intertwine with strategizing and even warfare, blending the expanded world with extended action sequences and character reveals, and the ramifications of the conclusion will be felt in future installments.
