It is often said that losing weight is the easy part of keeping it difficult. In fact, most people who lose weight will end up recovering (and something more). Although there are many complicated factors at play about why people recover weight lost old habits, metabolisms slowed down, aged, etc. Fat loss coach Carter Good has some tips on how to lose weight and keep it off for life.

In an Instagram post, Carter mentioned six habits that will help you achieve lifelong weight loss:

Instead of eliminating foods, start by adding low-calorie vegetables and lean proteins.
Instead of eliminating all snacks, limit snacks to once a day and keep them with fruit or protein.
Instead of eliminating all calories and liquid sauces, begin to include more low-calorie, no-calorie alternatives.
Lift weights two to five times per week.
Include lean proteins with most of your meals.
Stay active daily and shoot from 8,000 to 12,000 steps per day.
"Sure, crazy restriction with your diet and intense exercise can lead to higher Calories on the Calorie balance ... but for how long?" Carter wrote on his Instagram foot. "A couple of days? Or a full week? A month, maybe? It's just a matter of time before you run out of fuel and have to re-evaluate your plan or just give up altogether."

Instead, these sustainable habits will keep you on track and help you lose weight. And even if it's a slow and steady weight loss, like half a pound to a pound a week, you're more likely to stay with it and see permanent results.
