Bank Gothic Font is a rectilinear geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Morris Fuller Benton for American Type Founders and released in 1930. The design has become popular since the late 20th century to suggest a sci-fi, military, corporate, or sports aesthetic.
Bank Gothic is an exploration of geometric shapes and is contemporary with Georg Trump's City rectilinear slab serif typeface (Gothic in this context means "sans-serif", then a common usage, rather than black typeface). The typeface can also be compared to late 19th century engraved faces, such as Copperplate Gothic, which were popular for business card printing and corporate stationery. The design was initially published in small font sizes to allow for this use.
