One of the most important things you can invest in is a health mindset. It helps you deal with stress and analyze problems clearly. It helps you think creatively and make sound decisions based on logic. If you’re an investor then it will help you separate your emotions from your decisions. Many of us, however, fail to evaluate whether we have a healthy mindset, or not. We go through life like a zombie easily tricked. Or, our egos are so big that we just assume we are perfect. We breath and think but deep within, our minds are foggy.

Over a very long journey in life I have found several methods which help form a healthy mindset. Some of these tips come from books I have read and others from experience.

Healthy Mindset Tip #1

Don’t Take Everything Personal

Don Miguel Ruiz writes in his book The Four Agreements, about four things that will enrich your life if applied. The agreement don’t take anything personal is one of my favorites and an absolute must. How many times have you been disappointed by someone? They say or do something you don’t like and for the next week you are mad or irritated about the incident.

Several years ago I experienced the negative affects of taking everything personal. I was at the store and watched this couple jump in front of the line. I was not in the line but it made me mad. I hate when I myself have patiently waited and someone else comes along thinking they are better and more entitled. I took personally the incident. I felt my heart beat faster and my teeth clinch. I was angry with this couples inconsideratation of others. And I was affected for hours. I could be eating snack and remember the couples actions. Have you had a similar experience with something someone has done?

Now you may say I had every right to take it personal. The couple was wrong but why? Should we take it personal even if it affects our health. Once you have done all you can do, it does us no good to hold onto the issue. Does it? But when we take things personally we hold onto them at our own risk. I allowed the incident to affect my mood for hours when I could have used those hours being more productive or loving toward my family. In life, we are always going to see negative things but it is our choices that shape our minds. People and even family will disappoint us at times. But we don’t have to take it personal. Many times people are so lost in themselves that they become oblivious to others around them. And sometimes, there is a good reason why they acted the way they do.

Years later I still think about the incident at the store, however, I have a better understanding. After meeting several different cultures, I discovered that this couple actually had no intention of offending anyone. In the community, they actually were very generous and helpful. For them there actions were normal. Learning this helped me see the importance behind not taking everything personal. I can be offended but taking it as a personal slight does me more harm than good.

Healthy Mindset Tip #2

Meditation

Until recently, I rarely meditated. I prayed or sat while reflecting on my thoughts but never meditated. I am learning how valuable it really is, however. You know how sometimes you feel so stressed. You feel the weight on your shoulders. Your mind is racing all over the place. Meditation helps clear up this mess and gives you fresh eyes to evaluate with.

I recommend guided meditation if you have not tried meditation before. My personal favorite is Master Sri Akarshana guided Release Subconscious Blockages. Here he will guide you through a simple visualization to help you release any negative energy from emotions or mental anguish. However, if you just want some noice to drown out the sounds around you then listen to the 417hz Meditation Music. I am not sure of all the science behind listening to different frequencies but I do know this one is calming and energizing at the same time.

By clearing your mind of all the clutter you will be better able to face challenges and find solutions. Our minds are like a filing cabinet. When it gets too cluttered to find the things you need it is time to clean it and through out old files. Meditation is how you clean out the file cabinet of your mind. A daily practice of meditation will help you focus more and reset the internal button within you.

Wrap-up

Having a healthy mindset is an absolute must if you want happiness. While this topic can be spoken on in more detail, I hope I have given you some food for thought. Aim in your life for a healthy mindset. Educate yourself and never stop growing. Don’t take everything personal. Learn to let go and meditate to free your mind spirit of the clutter.
