Montserrat Font is a geometric sans-serif typeface designed by Argentine designer Julieta Ulanovsky. Its design was inspired by the signage of its historic Buenos Aires neighborhood of the same name. Montserrat is often mentioned as the closest free alternative to Gotham and Proxima Nova, however, in my opinion, it is a much more distinctive typeface compared to those two. The capital G and J really set it apart.
The old posters and posters of the traditional Montserrat neighborhood of Buenos Aires inspired Julieta Ulanovsky to design this typeface and rescue the beauty of the urban typeface that emerged in the first half of the 20th century. As urban development changes that place, it will never return to its original form and forever lose the designs that are so special and unique. The letters that inspired this project have work, dedication, care, color, contrast, light and life, day and night! These are the guys that make the city look so beautiful.
