That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is a Japanese fantasy light novel series written by Fuse and illustrated by Mitz Vah. The story is about a salaryman who is killed and reincarnated in a world of sword and sorcery as a slime with unique powers and gathers allies to build his own nation of monsters.
Fuse originally began the series as a web novel hosted on Shōsetsuka ni Narō between February 2013 and January 2016. The series was acquired for print publication by Micro Magazine, which published the first light novel, with illustrations by Mitz Vah, under his GC Novels stamp. in May 2014. Yen Press licensed the light novels for release in English, with the first volume released on December 19, 2017. A campaign was held to commemorate the series’ cumulative total of 20 million copies in 2020 The circulation of the series has surpassed 25 million copies in 2021. On November 30, 2021, it was reported that the series sold over 27 million copies in total for the entire series.
In August 2021, it was announced that three spin-off volumes would be released at the same time on September 15, 2021.
A new spin-off light novel, titled Catastrophe in Jura Forest, was announced and released to the public on October 15, 2021. Two more volumes were also released on the same date in the following two months.

Summary
Satoru Mikami is a 37-year-old ordinary corporate worker living in Tokyo. He is almost content with his monotonous life, even though he doesn’t have a girlfriend. During a chance encounter with his colleague, an assailant appears out of nowhere and stabs him. As he succumbs to his injuries, a mysterious voice echoes in his mind and recites a series of commands that he fails to understand.
After regaining consciousness, Satoru discovers that he has been reincarnated as a Slime in an unknown world. At the same time, he also gains new abilities, particularly the ability called “Predator”, which allows him to devour anything and mimic his appearance and abilities. He runs into Veldora, a powerful ‘Storm Dragon’, who has been sealed away for the past 300 years for burning a city to the ground. Feeling sorry for him, Satoru befriends the dragon and promises to help him destroy the seal. They decide to exchange names, Veldora giving him the name Rimuru and receiving the name Tempest in return. Slime then consumes the dragon along with his prison to analyze the spell within himself and finally free Veldora.
The disappearance of Veldora’s aura creates a power vacuum that eventually makes Rimuru the leader of all the beings that inhabit the Great Forest of Jura, who accept him as their ruler and together found the nation of Tempest. With Rimuru’s strength, wisdom, and idealistic vision, the new nation rapidly grows in strength and influence. Soon, Rimuru and his minions draw the attention of nearby foreign powers, from monarchs and legendary heroes to demon lords, some seeking to become their allies, while others seek to take advantage of them or destroy them outright.
